EMIMSC 2022






The 4th Eastern Mediterranean International Medical Students' Congress (EMIMSC) will take place between 20th -22nd of May 2022 in Rauf Raif Denktas Culture and Congress Center. The theme of EMIMSC 2022 is “Multidisciplinary Approaches to Psychiatry in 21st Century”. 
The Congress program will include joint sessions/plenaries, where distinguished Medical Scientists and Medical Doctors will be delivering speeches and presentations on various fields of psychiatry:

“Sexuality and Sexual Function Disorders” by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zihni SUNGUR

“Primary Symptoms and Neurodiversity in Autism ” by Prof. Dr. Ayşe RODOPMAN ARMAN

“Mental Disorders and Immune System” by Prof. Dr. Tunç AKKOÇ

''Dissociation and Dissociative Disorders'' by Prof. Dr. Vedat ŞAR

The Congress will be open to medical and pre-medical students as well as students working on topics of health studying a multitude of disciplines (health sciences, psychology, pharmacology, molecular biology and genetics departments). The Congress will be focusing on original scientific research presentations of participating students, where the presentations of best studies will be awarded. The Congress program will also cover fun, recreative and educative workshops like surgical suturing, yoga and pilates workshops.

Keynote Speakers:

Prof. Dr. Ayşe RODOPMAN ARMAN


She did his Child Psychiatry and Diseases speciality course at the same institution after graduating from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine (English). She was a guest speaker at Yale University Child Study Center in 2003 as part of a visiting professor program in the subject of early childhood neurodevelopmental problems (USA).In 2013, she was appointed Professor at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, where she continued his academic career. Between 2011 and 2018, she was the Director of the Department. She is still employed at the same medical school as a preclinical academic educator and advisor for the neuroscience student club. She is a founding member of the Marmara University Child Protection Unit and a member of the Turkish Spastic Children Foundation's Board of Directors. She is an arbitrator for Horizon 2020 and ERASMUS projects at the European Commission. TÜBITAK Project Evaluation Panel Management System has her as a consulting lecturer.Early-onset neurodevelopmental diseases such as attention deficit mobility disorder, Tourette's Disorder, and persistent tics, obsessive compulsive disorder, and autism are among the key research fields. In neurodevelopmental problems, she has clinical investigations on individual medical research, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Focused on multidisciplinary studies in the realm of social communication impairments. She has participated in UNICEF Trainers' Training in the areas of child abuse and neglect, as well as developmental disorders that affect children in their early years. She has two children and is married.

She still works as practice doctor in her own office.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zihni SUNGUR


Mehmet Sungur is professor of psychiatry at Istanbul Kent University. He received training in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), sexual and marital therapies at the Institute of Psychiatry (King's College), London. He is accredited as a 'cognitive behaviour therapist' by the Europoean Association of Behaviour and Cognitive Therapy (EABCT). He is a founding fellow member, certified cognitive therapist/supervisor of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) and International Advisory Board member of the Beck Institute (BI). He is the immediate past president of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy (IACP) and has been one of the past presidents of the EABCT. Dr Sungur is now the president of the European Federation of Sexology (EFS) and also a board member of the recently established World Confederation of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (WCCBT).He is also a board member of the World Assocition of Sexual Heath(WAS)

His clinical practice covers a wide range of clinical syndromes with a special emphasis on cognitive behavioural treatment of anxiety disorders and sexual and marital problems. He has presented workshops and keynotes in many international congresses. He played a leading role in the dissemination of the practice of CBT and sex-couple therapy. He is the president of Turkish Association of Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy (TACBT) since its establishment.

He has received some national and international awards, including “Schizophrenia Reintegration Award", “Gold Medal from European Federation of Sexology", "Julia Heiman Honorary Award" for his contributions in the area of couple and sex therapy. He has published more than 100 papers mainly about CBT and sexual disorders and written many books and book chapters on CBT.His books on “ Making Peace with Uncertainty" and “Love-Marriage and Infidelity" are published in Russian and being translated to English.

He is on the advisory and/or editorial board of many national and international journals and has currently committed himself to the training of mental health professionals in clinical applications of CBT and couple-sex therapy. He has been the president of 8 international and many national congresses.

Prof. Dr. Tunç AKKOÇ

 

Prof. Dr. Tunc AKKOÇ received his PhD degree in 2005 from University of Marmara Division of Pediatric Allergy-Immunology. He became a Docent in 2009. He is working in Marmara University Medical Faculty Pediatric Allergy-Immunology Department as a Professor. He worked on autoimmunity and allergic diseases, basic immunological  mechanisms, immunomodulation and immunotherapy, stem cell and cellular
 therapies. He worked in Davos SIAF on atopic dermatitis and T cell responses. Also he worked on Marie Curie project within Sweden, Romania and Turkey on atopic disease and hygiene and work in Sweden on this project. Prof. Akkoc studing on the effect of stem cell, atopic diseases, Crohn's disease and autoimmune diseases. He was a third term visa president of Society of Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy. He is also member of TUBA Stem Cell Group.

Prof. Dr. Vedat ŞAR


Vedat ŞAR, MD is a Psychiatrist and Professor/Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Koc University School of Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey. He has been studying and teaching dissociative disorders and complex trauma since early 90'ies in various general psychiatric settings including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency units of academic hospitals as well as in a solo private practice. Main focus of his research has been epidemiology, diagnosis, and comorbidity issues on the spectrum of trauma-related disorders. He has published peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on the subject alongside two co-edited books. He is a Fellow and Past President of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) and Past President of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS). Prof. Şar has been honored by numerous awards for his studies including the Lifetime Achievement Award of the ISSTD. He has been recently chosen as one of the 100 most influencial medical doctors of Turkey.
